Short Description

Boccia Australia Incorporated (BA), formerly The Cerebral Palsy Boccia Australia Association Incorporated, was formed to develop and manage the sport nationally. The association oversees the development and implementation of the national strategic direction for the sport. It covers fundamental areas such as community engagement, grass roots participation, athlete development and high performance.

Additional Info

More Details

* BA is solely run by a volunteer Board with volunteers assisting with the day-to-day administration and operation of the organisation.
* The community engagement program of BA is supported by a large team of volunteers with roles ranging from coaches, sport assistants to referees as well as volunteers focused on promoting the sport in schools and to the relevant service providers.

BISFed
* BISFed is the International Federation for boccia.
* The Boccia International Sports Federation was launched on 1 January 2013 following an historic resolution by the Boccia-playing nations that the sport needed an independent governing body.
* Boccia Australia is recognised by BISFed as having the responsibility for the sport of Boccia within Australia. As such, Boccia Australia is the only Full Member of BISFed from Australia.

What is Boccia?
* Displaying similarities to the sport of lawn bowls, boccia is a non-contact, target sport that is suitable to a wide range of participants. Boccia can be played by individuals, pairs, or teams of three and all events are unaffected by age or gender.
* The aim of the game is to throw leather balls, coloured either red or blue (which side gets which is determined by a coin toss), as close as they can to a white target ball, or jack. The balls can be thrown, kicked, or athletes can use an assistive device such as a ramp (or an assistant).
