Short Description
NABS provides Australia-wide interpreters to Deaf and hearing impaired adults and children who use sign language and would like an interpreter for private medical appointments. It is free of charge to Sign Language users and medical practitioners. It will also provide interpreters for people who are deaf and blind. NABS operates between the hours of 8am to 8pm, Monday to Firday, excluding Public Holidays.

NABS can be used for the following types of appointments, regardless of whether they are fee-paying or bulk-billed appointments
* GP and Specialist
* Podiatrist and Chiropodists
* Aboriginal Health Workers
* Chiropractors
* Audiologists
* Osteopaths
* Dieticians
* Psychologists
* Mental Health Workers
* Psychiatrists
* Occupational Therapists
* Speech and Language Pathologists
* Physiotherapists
* Dentists
* Optometrists
People Useful For
Deaf and hearing impaired adults and children who use sign language and would like an interpreter for private medical or health appointments.
Parents who wish to use NABS services at medical and health care appointments involving their children (between ages 0 - 18 years) :
* Hearing parents who have a child who uses sign language
* Deaf parents who have a child who uses sign language
* Deaf parents who have a hearing child
NABS understands that children may be using a variety of communication methods and will do its best to cater for individual needs.

* NABS is an activity of the Wesley Mission, Brisbane and funded by the Department of Family and Community Services
* Many NABS interpreters have skills in Signed English in addition to Auslan skills
