2015 NDIS New World Conference: Disability in the 21st Century

Brisbane Conference & Exhibition Centre, October 27 – 29, 2015
Independent Living Centre NSW were exhihibiting, at Booth 50.
Staff attended the 3 days-conference include CEO Robyn Chapman, Client Services Team Manager Bec Howard, OT Rebecca Hilton, AT Mentor Carolinea and Senior OT Tracee-Lee. Visitors at our exhibiting booth were able to experience Endless Possibilities with Assistive Technology.

Everyone Connects Australia - October 2015 Updates

October 12, 2015

Since the start of the 2015-2016 financial year, ILC Everyone Connects Australia (ECA) Team were in full-steam, running the Consumer Workshops and the In-depth Training programs. Places they have visited include: Blacktown, Bunbury, Canberra, Coffs Harbour, Darwin, Katherine, Melbourne, Perth and Wollongong. Responses from the participants have been very positive.
Until early December, the Team will be bringing the ECA workshops and trainings to the following towns/cities:
- QLD - Brisbane
- TAS - Launceston
- VIC - Frankston
- SA - Gilles Plains

Guide to Planning Bathrooms and Kitchens (2015 Edition)

The WAIT is over!
ILC NSW has revised this popular guide, 2015 edition is available for purchase.

Bathrooms and kitchens require special attention in the planning phase. Once they are built, they are expensive to alter or modify. This Guide provides advice on planning bathrooms and kitchens for people with specific needs.

The 2015 edition presents an update reviewing circulation and access requirements taking into consideration new sizes of wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility aids. The revised edition also:
- includes additional information based on carers needs to facilitate access to and within the bathroom;
- provides a general overview of the latest innovative assistive technology available for home modifications and retrofits.

Home Modifications Course from ILC NSW

June 1, 2015

ASQA has approved the inclusion of our Home Mods course on our RTO scope. ILC NSW is offering the national recognised competency, CPPACC5016A Provide Expert Access Advice on Renovations to Private Dwellings, as a two day course on Home Mods for built environment and allied health professionals. This course is an additional unit of competence towards a Cert IV or Diploma in Access Consulting.
Trainers include: Queenie Tran, M.Arch (UNSW) MACA; Hamish Murray, Access Consultant; Esther Huber, OT
2015 Dates
Albury: 14, 15 September
Blacktown: 13,14 October

Since July 2015, ILC Everyone Connects Australia (ECA) Team has successfully run both the Consumer Workshops and the In-depth Training programs in Blacktown, Canberra, Coffs Harbour and Darwin. Responses from the participants have been very positive.

ILC Training - Introduction to Powered Wheelchairs

Whilst many suppliers offer workshops on powered mobility, these are all provided within the ranges that the supplier has access to supply. At ILC NSW we will take you through all the features of powered mobility and empower you as a therapist to identify the advantages and disadvantages of chairs. This one day introduction to powered mobility workshop will look at the different powered mobility bases on the market from entry level basic through to switch controlled rehab models.
Areas covered include:
- Different drive base options
- Clinical reasoning in drive base selection
- Product knowledge and power wheelchair feature update
- Actuators and functionality of chair
- Tilt recline and overview of standing
- Environmental considerations and constraints
- Access points
- Integration of environmental controls/communication devices
