The use of restraint affects a persons rights and dignity, and may remove or restrict their ability to move freely. Restraints can be an item of equipment or a management practice and should not be used as a substitute for supervision. In some cases, a restraint may increase a person's risk of physical harm.
Policies or practices of restraint in a residential care service should reflect any relevant legislation, codes of practice and professional standards. Legal advice on some issues may be appropriate.
Please ask the ILC staff or other care staff relevant to your situation for more information. They can advise on the use of least restrictive forms of restraint and/or alternatives to restraints.

Products that meet Australian or international standards will have written certification. To find out if a product meets Australian Standards ask the supplier to show you the certificate.
