More Details

It is not government sponsored. Income is generated entirely from fees, sponsorships and donations.

Discovery Programs. These courses take up to 12 individuals, together with an appropriate number of attendant carers, on a journey of self awareness, to discover the depths of their previously untapped potential. Outward Bound offers specialisation, safety, experience, expertise in instruction, facilitation and flexibility in design to meet the needs of each individual or group.

Two types of courses are conducted, specifically designed for persons with:
.1) Physical disability or mixed ability ((physically disabled and able bodied persons), and
. 2)Intellectual Disability
. Course duration varies from 7 to 9 days, dependent on the client group and the degree and nature of the disability. Participants need to be at least 12 years old but the upper age is only limited by the capabilities of the individual. Appropriately compatible age and mobility groupings ensure a cohesive team environment.
While an Outward Bound program can vary in its content due to location, all are designed around structured and progressive challenges to encourage trust and initiative. The programs normally have several components which may include some or all of the following:
caving
rafting
hiking
expeditioning
bush cooking
environmental games
group activities
abseiling
rock climbing
ropes course
Meal planning and preparation, which can involve water and firewood collection, personal and camp cleanliness and general camp set up, are important experiences occurring throughout the program.

The Australian Outward Bound Development Fund
. The Australian Outward Bound Development Fund enables people to
participate in an Outward Bound course who would be unable to do so without some financial support. This is generally due to some form of disability or disadvantage.
