Short Description
This government programme is designed to support and assist relatives and friends caring for friends and relatives who for reasons of illness, frailty and/or disability are unable to care for themselves. Carer source Centres have been established to act as a centralised contact point to improve carers' ability to gain access to information and advice.

The Carer Resource Centres aim to:
. Improve carers' access to a wider range of information which is more
reliable and relevant;
. Improve access to available services and assistance, particularly respite care services;
. Ensure services are more appropriate to the needs of carers and those they care for;
. Improve carers' capacity to undertake their caring role;
. Increase appropriate use of volunteers for carer support;
. Enhance recognition and awareness of carers' role and needs among service providers and agencies, groups, health professionals and organisations.
The Carer Resource Centres provide connections with a national network of 56 Carer Respite Centres established to improve access to assistance when carers need to take a break from caring in an emergency or on a regular basis.
Carers NSW also publishes a monthly newsletter.
Provides a free "Carer's Support Kit" on becoming a member.
