The Access & Participation Team is part of Disability Programs, NSW Dept of Education & Training. It is staffed by a team of professionals who provide consultancy, resources and information to personnel within NSW. The unit is responsible for the education of children and students with severe disabilities 0-20 years.
. The service is currently funded by the Commonwealth Government and is administered by the NSW Dept of Education & Training Disability Programs.
. It provides its service to both government and non - government schools in addition to other facilities where educational programmes are provided for these students.
. There are educators, speech pathologists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists in the team.
Scope of Service:
. It operates on a transdisciplinary model of service delivery and is able to offer support to personnel through:
. Consultancy - This provides stragegies and equipment for curriculum modification.
. Equipment - A pool of equipment is available for borrowing and trialling. This includes positioning and mobility equipment, a range communication equipment and switches to facilitate access.
. Professional Development - The educators and therapists are available to support a variety of training and development activities to
therapists, aides, teachers, assistants and parents, such as staff meetings, workshops and staff development days.
. Personnel wishing to arrange visits by a member of the team should do so through their director, manager or principal using the request form available from the team.
