The Roundtable on Reading for People with Print Disabilities was
formed in 1981 and has set national standards for the transcription of print material into other formats. The Roundtable has 35 members including all major transcribing agencies, distributors and consumer groups.

The organisation aims to have as many books and other printed material as possible available in the following alternative formats:
. Audio (usually cassette)
. Large print
. Braille
. Tactual graphics (used to convey diagrams, maps, etc. The diagram is drawn in black on a master, which is copied onto paper that expands when exposed to heat. The black areas absorb more heat and rises above the background).
. Computer disks can be accessed directly by anyone who has a PC with voice output, braille output, or an enlarging facility.
