The National Relay Service (NRS) provides people who are deaf, or have a speech or hearing impairment, with access to a standard telephone service. The NRS provides a relay service for the cost of a local call every day of the year, twenty-four hours a day. Calls go via a Relay Officer who 'relays' the message (usually text to voice or vice versa). The NRS comprises the Call Centre where Relay Officers transmit calls to other people; and an Outreach Service to provide activities which support awareness, training and usage of the NRS.
