Aims of the Contact Program:
. To relieve, within the limits of the resources available to the Program,
poverty, disadvantage and isolation suffered by young children on the basis of need, irrespective of race, creed or religion.
. To provide assistance, information, referrals and support to people caring for young children in isolated circumstances.
. To stimulate interest in the wellbeing of young children by improving
community awareness of the needs of children.
Contact Charter:
. Includes supporting and resourcing isolated people caring for young
children, and identifying areas of need in regard to children in rural and remote areas.
. Encouraging the formation of common interest groups by linking families together, and assisting in building confidence to combat isolation.
. Providing information to Governments and Agencies on areas of need to consolidate existing children's services, and advocating for new services.
. Consolidating links made in the field by producing two newsheets per year, `Contact with Kids', (circulation approximately 15,000), a variety of Resource and Activity Sheets and the `Who to Contact' Information Sheet.
. Developing media resources on child development and play, from 0 to 5 years.
. Resourcing a variety of existing services by way of organising Activity and Discussion Days in communities and by maintaining liaison and ongoing contact.
. Targeting population responses, assisting with appropriate submissions, and encouraging new services and links between services and groups, to provide access and equity to rural and remote areas.
. Co-ordinating training for services and management committees, where necessary.
