Short Description
A wheelchair and occupant restraint system for vans and buses. The occupant and wheelchair are securely fastened in a forward facing position to four pocket style attachment points independent of each other. Floor fittings can be recessed. A track style system is also available.
Options
. Lap sash belt (static or inertia reel)
. Pocket-riser. This is a plastic riser which fits around the square floor mountings to provide a smoother wheel ride over the pockets when they are not mounted flush.
. A wallmount is available for storage of belts. This includes an emergency belt cutter.
Models
One model is available - the Q-5004TR Pocket System - 4x flush mounted floor pockets.
More Details
. The kit includes:
- 2 front belts - slip adjustable
- 2 rear belts with tensioning buckles
- lap belt
. Each belt is adjustable with a dual action adjustment to accommodate every wheelchair design.
. The wheelchair will be secured in the exact same position on each occasion of use.
. Floor fittings can be recessed so that attachments do not present a hazard to ambulatory passengers.
Interdependent Occupant Restraint
This is an interdependent rear tie down belt and lap belt hook up. The connection is positioned higher, close to the passengers pelvic area and close to the point where the back and seat meet. This reportedly keeps the wheelchair from "loading" onto the occupant on impact. The lap belt attaches to the rear tie down belts, and is adjustable. A shoulder belt is also available which has a fixed location on the side wall of the vehicle. The shoulder belt can be fitted with an inertia reel equal to those used in standard front car seats.
Supplier Notes:
Vehicle bodies require reinforcement when shoulder (sash) belts are fitted.
Installation
The attachment points can be installed on the top of the floor or recessed. The chair is held down by front and rear belts that clip into these attachment points on the floor. The rear belts have tightening clamps. The chair attachment hooks are covered with vinyl or heavy duty carpet to protect the wheelchair frame.
Licence & Insurance Requirements
The installation of floor plates must be inspected by an RTA certified engineer who provides a report. Training must be provided by the supplier in the use of the restraint system. An instruction book must be provided as well as written instructions displayed in the vehicle into which the system has been fitted.
