Short Description
A pressure relieving air mattress overlay consisting of a mattress pad and an electric motor / pump. This alternating air overlay is designed to assist in the prevention and management of people who are assessed at medium / high risk of pressure ulcer development or existing ulcers up to and including grade 2. Load capacity 150kg.
Options
* Pump can be operated from the "head end" by tubing variations to the mattress. This is to prevent the electric cord from trailing on the floor.
Models
* Harvest Opal Mattress Overlay - Nylon cells
* Harvest Supreme Mattress Overlay - PVC cells. The PVC cells are softer and have more "give" in them

More Details
The Harvest Opal Mattress Overlay System provides active pressure relief by a series of individual cells that gently inflate and deflate alternately over a set cycle. The three top cells remain static for the patient's head comfort.
Structure
* 17 nylon cells in a transverse configuration. Each cell individually clips onto the pad surround.
* Two cell alternating pressure on a 10 minute cycle
* Welded seams on cells
* Cells are individually replaceable (cannot be repaired)
* Top three cells at head of bed are static
Cover
* Two way stretch PVC waterproof, (vapour permeable) cover with zipper. Zip is concealed by a flap to prevent ingress of contaminants.
Attachment
* Tuck in flaps at the head and foot with attachments for securing under the mattress
Pump
* Power on indicator
* Analogue pressure control on motor
* Audible power failure alarm
* Visual guide on motor to assist with the setting of the appropriate pressure, according to the user's weight
* Integrated hanging hooks to fit most beds
* Snap fit tube connectors
* Minimal noise and vibration levels
Safety Features
* CPR release (turn knob to release) for quick deflation (approx 13 seconds)
Cleaning
* Wipe over with damp cloth
* Cover can be removed and washed at 71 degrees C for 10 minutes followed by cold rinse and extraction
Factors To Consider
All pressure reduction products must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion or mattress. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg correct inflation levels), a different product may need to be considered.
Standards
Some assistive technology needs to meet Australian or other standards. Standards may relate to materials, manufacturing and installation. Products that meet Australian or international standards will have written certification. To find out if a product meets Australian Standards ask the supplier to show you the certificate.
