Short Description
The Duo2 mattress replacement system combines low pressure control technology (De Teq) with two therapy modes. These are continuous low pressure and alternating pressure therapy. Operation is via a compact hand held control. The manufacturer states that this product is for a person with a high to very high risk of developing pressure sores. A seating system is optional. Available in single bed size only.
Options
Seat cushion. This connects to the mattress for inflation and adjusts automatically to the patient's weight. Once inflated and disconnected, it allows greater patient independence, delivering 24 hour care.

More Details
STRUCTURE
The mattress has a central zone known as the `De Teq` zone which monitors the downwards pressure of the user and accommodates pressure requirements. De Teq module constantly adjusts cushion pressure to a minimum.
OPERATION
Two modes are available:
1) Continuous low pressure mode: provides the maximum possible distribution of the patient`s body weight and therefore the minimum tissue interface pressure.
2) Alternating low pressure mode: provides alternating air pressure therapy without high peak tissue interface pressures.
Features
Head Zone - Remains in continuous low pressure providing a high level of comfort and safety
Body Zone - Continuous 1 in 4 low pressure cycle
Real-Heel? zone - 1 in 2 cycle and 8 micro cushions adjust independently to the Body Zone to provide contoured support of the heels and optimal pressure relief.
PUMP/CONTROLS
One touch ultra compact control. It can be hand held, free standing or clipped to the bed. Low noise motor.
Control features:
De teq? indicator
Power on indicator
Alarm silence
Transport mode indicator. Activated within one second, allows patient support for a minimum of two hours. Unplugging the mattress silences the alarm.
P Max operation indicator. This feature on the handset allows the mattress to become firm and allow easier movement up the bed on the hospital sheet.
CPR button
COVER
The cover made from a synthetic product known as Protex. This is waterproof, moisture vapour permeable (breathable), two way stretch to reduce shear and friction, non irritant and anti inflammable. It also has bacteriostatic and anti fungal cover.
SAFETY
One touch CPR button deflates the surface within 10 seconds
TRANSPORTATION
Vacuum system allows the mattress to be packed flat.
Transport mode allows for a minimum of two hours transportation on an inflated mattress away from power.
COMMENTS
Compatible with an electric blanket and head raise with an adjustable bed.
Factors To Consider
All pressure reduction products must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion or mattress. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg correct inflation levels), a different product may need to be considered.
Standards
Some assistive technology needs to meet Australian or other standards. Standards may relate to materials, manufacturing and installation. Products that meet Australian or international standards will have written certification. To find out if a product meets Australian Standards ask the supplier to show you the certificate.
