Short Description
The Clinisert 2 is a modular pressure reducing foam replacement mattress. It features a standard foam base with the choice of either a high density foam insert or a Viscoelastic foam insert. The Esprit HR welded cover features stretch fabric and strikethrough resistance. Available in two sizes. The supplier states that the mattress is suitable for people who are at very low risk of developing pressure areas.
Models
One standard model is available. Customised sizes are available.

Features
Both inserts are designed to provide even weight distribution and enhanced user comfort. Because they are interchangeable, they can be used to meet the needs of different users without having to buy a whole new mattress.
The mattress is adaptable to all bed frames and angles.
Structure
The mattress base and side sections comprise a high density foam. High density side sections provide lateral stability.
The Viscoelastic insert is foam with a gel-like quality, which is sensitive to body temperature. It will soften with body heat and recognise shape and pressure. It will adjust to distribute weight evenly, reducing pressures on vulnerable areas.
The High Resilience Foam insert has foam cubes, which compress independently to conform to body shape, maximising weight distribution and reducing pressures on vulnerable areas.
Cover
The Lifesafe Esprit HR? cover is a stretch fabric that is resistant to degeneration through hydrolyisis. All seams are welded ensuring there is no ingress of fluid (strikethrough proof).
(Strikethrough is where degeneration (Hydrolysis) of the polyurethane membrane occurs under the influence of heat and moisture, causing failure of the water barrier properties. This is witnessed as cracking open of the membrane allowing ingress of fluids through the cover into the foam.)
An Esprit HR? sewn and taped cover is also available (not strikethrough proof)
Cleaning
Wipe down disinfection of the cover between patients
Application
The supplier states that the Clinisert 2 mattress will provide improved comfort and pressure distribution, and is suitable for people who are mobile, and at very low risk of developing pressure areas.
Factors To Consider
All pressure reduction products must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion or mattress. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg correct inflation levels), a different product may need to be considered.
Standards
Some assistive technology needs to meet Australian or other standards. Standards may relate to materials, manufacturing and installation. Products that meet Australian or international standards will have written certification. To find out if a product meets Australian Standards ask the supplier to show you the certificate.
