More Details
Floor Anchor Point
* A steel base plate is fitted to the floor. This may be fitted to existing wheelchair accessible vehicles or new vehicles.
Wheelchair Restraint
* A steel plate is fitted to the base of the wheelchair. It is pointed at the front and designed to insert into the base plate fixed to the vehicle floor. The wheelchair automatically locks into place. A button near the steering wheel is pressed to confirm the wheelchair is locked into place. The engine won't start if the button is not pressed. A beeping sound confirms it is locked.
Another button that is located on the panel of the back side door, releases the lock so the wheelchair can be removed.
The manufacturer says the base plate may be fitted to 95% of manual and powered wheelchairs.
Occupant Restraint
* An Australian Standards approved seatbelt attached to the vehicle is required to be worn by the occupant.
Safety
* The device has been fully crash tested and it has several in built safety features.
Considerations for Use
* This wheelchair restraint system can reduce the need to bend and reach to lock down the wheelchair.
* A plate permanently attaches to the base of the wheelchair, which may affect its weight, and may be an obstruction in some situations.
NOTE: Always use this docking system with an approved safety belt.
