Short Description
Personal Alarm Call System offering monitoring by both Call Centre and nominated persons such as family or friends. It consists of a transmitter pendant and an additional receiver unit, allowing two way speak via a speaker phone and answers calls remotely. Multiple pendants and sensors can be connected and monitored.
Method Of Use
An emergency call is activated by either
* Pressing the button on Amie or Gem transmitter or the larger red button on the receiver unit
* Sensor is triggered e.g smoke alarm set off
The unit dials the nominated preprogrammed phone number
Call Centre Monitoring
Call goes directly to the 24hr response centre who is able to identify both the caller and which sensor has been triggered. The Telecare staff are then able to speak directly to the caller via two way speak and summon appropriate help in accordance to the persons emergency plan.
Nominated Persons Monitoring
Call goes to nominated phone number. A prerecorded message is played when answered. It will continue to call 12 times. The respondent needs to press an allocated number that activates the two way voice to speak to the caller directly and organise appropriate assistance.

Transmitter
"Amie" or "Gem"are the radio transmitters, either worn on wrist, clip belt or as a pendant. Unit supports multiple transmitters with one receiver unit assisting in retirement village or group home settings.

Receiver
Is an additional unit located beneath, or adjacent to telephone. Both activation and cancellation of the alarm can be performed from the unit by pressing the nominated buttons.

Considerations For Use
* Receiver has a simple display with two large buttons, which may encourage ease of use for some users
* Amplification for hearing aid usage
* Two way communication to talk directly with the user once the alarm has been activated.
* Verbal confirmation that alarm has been activated and clients instructions have been actioned.
* Answering and hanging up telephone calls and communicating hands free, may be useful for individuals who find it difficult to walk to the telephone or who get tired holding onto a telephone receiver.
* The Personal Alarm system can be programmed to accommodate other alarms including inactivity sensors, smoke detectors, gas leak sensors, infrared sensors. Useful for persons requiring additional monitoring to reduce risks of injury.
Subsidised Funding
Personal Call Alarm Systems and monitoring can be funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs ( for eligible clientele. An Occupational Therapy assessment is required and the individual must meet the DVA eligibility criteria.
Installation
Tunstall prefers installation by telephone technician which they can organise on clients behalf. However system can be self installed and program own nominated number for nominated persons monitoring.
A mode 3 or 5 socket should be installed with the system to override any additional extensions being used when alarm is activated. It allows the system to operate in the eventuality that a phone is off the hook.
A licensed technician can install a mode 3 or mode 5 sockets.
Standards
