Communication boards and symbol systems are options for enhancing or augmenting the communication of people who have difficulties communicating with speech eg, they may have no speech or speech that is difficult to understand. A communication board is one method of arranging symbols for an augmentative communication system.
This educational DVD produced by ComTEC is aimed at parents, carers and support staff of children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). It provides an introduction to the process of modelling and is intended as a tool for those supporting an AAC user. It is designed to be used in conjunction with therapists, teachers, parents and carers as part of a whole team approach.
The Bi-fold Communication Choice Board is a portable communication board approximately the size of a folder when closed and comes with a carrying handle. The inside is made of Velcro friendly fabric, while the outside is made of a waterproof nylon fabric. Place "hook" Velcro on the back of pictures to use for communication and choice - making.
Boardmaker is a software program for making therapy tools, communication displays and overlays for speech generating devices. The program contains over 4500 PCS symbols and versions are available for both Macintosh and PC computers. Black and white and colour symbols are included.
CHAT-Now is a resource for people working to support young children with complex communication needs. This CD contains a collection of ready made aided language displays, which can be opened, printed and edited in the Boardmaker software. It also includes information about how to implement aided language stimulation in home and early childhood environments.
This is a light technology kit of communication resources, designed to assist communication at home for teenagers and adults who require visual communication aids to help with comprehension and/or expression.
The Etran communication board is a non electronic communication aid, designed to enable a person to communicate using spelling and eye contact with their communication partner. It has an alpha numeric display in eight groupings around a rectangular opening on a clear perspex sheet. There are two styles available, one that uses colour coding and one that has white letters.
The Eye-Com board is an eye gaze communication system consisting of a large piece of square perspex with a square hole in the middle. Symbols and words are placed around the board. It enables a person to communicate a wide variety of messages to the conversational partner sits opposite the user. Only one model available.
