Rescue Door System

Rescue Door System

Overview

Short Description

This System allows an individual to free a person who might be trapped behind an interior locked door. By pressing the spring loaded door stops, the door is free to open outwards. Pressing the door stops again returns the door to it's original state. The System can be installed on all timber and aluminium doors. It can be retrofitted to existing door frames. It is suitable for residential, commercial and industrial applications.

Method Of Use

The uniqueness of the Rescue Door System lies in its ability to act as a conventional doorjamb opening in one direction, but when necessary retracting and allowing the doorjamb to open in the opposite direction. This can be achieved by pressing two steel spring loaded catches on the top and sides of the each door frame. For example, the only way to currently gain access to a person in an emergency situation locked in a bathroom with a conventional doorjamb is by using force. The main design improvement over existing doorjambs is the safety offered in opening a door in any direction.

There are two elements to the Rescue Door System invention:
1. A retractable doorjamb using spring loaded catches.
2. A large hinge design specific to the Rescue Door System doorjamb.

A conventional doorjamb is a support frame that a door rests upon when closed, so as to only allow the door to open in one direction. It jambs against the lip of wood that surrounds the outer edge of the door to primarily ensure door closure at a specific position. The jam also prevents dust, light, and sound from entering into a room.
