More Details
Ability Links NSW is an initiative of the NSW State Government's Department of Family and Community Services, Ageing, Disability and Home Care.
Ability Links NSW is for:
* People with disability (9 to 64 years and who are generally not accessing
specialist disability services)
* Carers and families of people with disability
* The community
Linkers
* By 1 July 2014, families in every part of NSW will have access to an Ability Links NSW Coordinator, known as a Linker.
* Linkers work with people with disability, their families and carers to help them to plan for their future, build on their strengths and skills, and develop networks in their own communities to do what they want to do with their lives.
* Linkers will also work with local communities to help them become more welcoming and inclusive to people with disability.
* Linkers can also refer people to community based services and supports, and assist people in the NDIS launch site to complete the My Access Checker.
Linking with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities
* Ability Links NSW works with people from CALD communities and can help people with disability, carers and families from CALD communities to develop links in their local and extended community
Linking with Aboriginal Communities
* Linkers located anywhere in NSW can help Aboriginal people with disability,
carers and families to develop links within your local and extended community
Hunter Region Launch
* The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW has been appointed as the auspice for Ability Links NSW in the Hunter Region and commenced on 1 July 2013, supporting the launch of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Linkers
* Linkers in the Hunter region are available to meet with people in their homes, in the community or at one of several drop in offices across the Hunter Region.
