Home Modification Information Clearinghouse

The Home Modification Information Clearinghouse (HMinfo) is a Commonwealth Government funded information service that helps people make informed choices about modifications to their home aimed at improving safety, ease of access and comfort for older people and people with disability. The Home Modification Clearinghouse
The Home Modification Information Clearinghouse (HMinfo) is a Commonwealth Government funded information service that helps people make informed choices about modifications to their home aimed at improving safety, ease of access and comfort for older people and people with disability. HMinfo provides free research and technical publications to support older people and people with disabilities, home modification service providers, practitioners, the building industry and researchers. In addition to providing home modification information to the community, HMinfo hosts discussion forums, Apps, a service directory and other free services.

Publications by HMinfo
HMinfo publications as well as publications from other reliable sources are included on the web site. These include but are not limited to:

Administrative
HMinfo Administration materials include any information relating to administration, including policy, procedures and guidelines. This includes the minutes of the Advisory Committee.

Evidence Based Practice Reviews
Research publications by the HMinfo team are based on a systematic review methodology. The reviews are academically rigorous documents that are peer reviewed by specialist panels that are relevant to the topic. Additional publications are developed from this evidence base, including consumer and industry factsheets and checklists.

Consumer Factsheets
These consumer factsheets are based on the Evidence Based Practice Reviews provide information for consumers on how to apply the best practice information gleaned from the research that has been conducted.

Industry Factsheets and Checklists
These industry factsheets based on the Evidence Based Practice Reviews provide information for industry members on how to apply the best practice information gleaned from the research that has been conducted. The industry information includes a checklist as to how to best apply the principles arising from research.

Occasional Research Papers
Research publications are produced by the HMinfo team based on methodologies other than systematic reviews. For instance, our summary publications summarise industry relevant hot topics identified by the HMinfo Advisory Committee, or the Forum section of our website. These include articles on items such as thermostatic mixing valves or electrical safety within the bathroom and other specific research topics related to an industry related concern or known practice failure.

Annotated Subject Bibliographies
HMinfo maintains an electronic database with over 2,600 online and hardcopy materials relevant to the sector. Additionally as a by product of our research we produce annotated bibliographies of the best references for particular topics of interest to industry and other researchers. These subject bibliographies contain information relating to certain design topics. These topics include:

* Dementia
* Grabrails
* Home modifications for children
* Lighting and Vision

Annotated Web Links
An edited collection of international and national websites containing information relevant to home modification and maintenance decisions.

Forums
The HMinfo website forums provide an opportunity for subscribers to exchange ideas and information relating to home modification for older people and people with a disability. Subscribers may include Home Modification and Maintenance Service Providers, Occupational Therapists, Designers, Builders, Tradespersons, Consumers and Researchers - anyone with a particular interest in Home Modification for older people and people with a disability.
