Short Description

A roof mounted hoist which consists of a motorised winch and a spring loaded gate attached to a car roof rack. The winch lifts the wheelchair onto the roof and positions it on the gate. To unload, the gate pivots at the roof rack on the driver's side and inclines to 45 degrees to the vertical over the space next to the driver's door and lowers the chair.

Method Of Use

. The person transfers on to the car seat and folds the wheelchair.
. Using the switch, lower strap and hook on the wheelchair.
. Strap then lifts suspended wheelchair vertically on to the gate which folds back on to the roof rack.

More Details

. A metal roof rack which is zinc treated and epoxy coated for extra corrosion protection. This is mounted on the roof gutter or can be adapted for vehicles without roof gutters.
The mechanism on the roof rack consists of:
. A spring loaded bracket or gate attached to the roof rack above the driver's door. It pivots at this point to swing from a horizontal position on the roof of the car to extend beyond the side of the car.
. A strap with a weighted hook which is lowered when the gate has reached its range of travel.
. A 12v electric winch, located on the roof rack which is operated from the car battery using a toggle switch with up/off/down position.
. Wheelchair can be loaded and unloaded independently by the wheelchair user.
. Can be fitted to any chair.
