Short Description
Factors which influence the choice of slip resistant tiles, in addition to personal taste, include whether the location is indoor or outdoor, on a flat or sloped surface, in a domestic or public facility, etc. Slip resistant tiles are generally unglazed. POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING SLIP-RESISTANT TILES:
. Area of use sometimes / always wet, eg bathroom / outdoor areas.
. Ease of cleaning - raised surfaces in shower areas may accumulate soap residue.
. Difficulty of installation - large tiles can affect ease of achieving
suitable fall of floor in shower area.
. Porosity of tile.
. Small tiles, eg 50mm square provide greater areas of grout thus contributing to slip resistance of total surface.
. Tiles with textured finishes such as studs, carborundum, etc, increase slip resistance on a sloped surface and in constantly wet areas eg swimming pools.
. Existing glazed tiles may be treated with an applied etching solution which reduces slip for a nominated time (up to 5 years).
