PWDA is the peak organisation that represents all people with disabilities in New South Wales. It is a rights based organisation that exists to promote the full participation and citizenship of all people with disabilities in NSW.

Its aims are the empowerment of people with disabilities, the advancement of their rights, needs and interests, and the promotion of their participation and integration in all aspects of society.

PWD Australia Inc was established to provide a voice that was exclusively focused from the perspective of people with disability, rather than the perspective of service providers, family or government.

It represents people irrespective of the nature, origin or degree of their disability: includes people with intellectual disability, people with physical disability, people with sensory disability, people with psychiatric disability, people with chronic health problems and degenerative conditions including, Hepatitis and HIV/AIDS etc.

The organisation is primarily made up of people with disability or organisations of people with disability. It also has a large associate membership of people who support the objectives of the PWD Australia Inc but who do not themselves have a disability and supportive organisations. Only people with disability and organisations of people with disability have voting rights.

The organisation's mission is to ensure the full participation and citizenship of people with disability through individual and systemic advocacy.

PWD Australia Inc is part of a loose national and international network of people with disability which comes together as Disabled People's International.
