The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a worldwide educational movement for older people who are in the ?third age?. This is the post retirement stage of life, when one has time for pursuing wider interests. Sydney U3A is a self-help association of almost 5,000 members in seven regions across the Sydney metropolitan area. It offers more than 200 daytime courses on a wide range of subjects.

Courses include history, literature, art, music, science, languages, theatre and current affairs. They cater for the varying educational backgrounds and interests of members.
No qualifications are required to join U3A or to enrol in courses, and no qualifications are awarded. There are no examinations. U3A sees learning and the pursuit of knowledge as an end in itself.
How much does it cost?
There is an annual subscription and an initial joining fee. The subscription covers administrative costs, rentals, purchase of teaching equipment, printing and postage. Tuition fees are not charged, but course materials supplied by the leader, and refreshments, must be paid for by the participants in a course.
How do I join U3A?
Download, print and fill out the registration form from their website. Return it to the U3A Sydney office with the payment.
A membership card and a course list will be sent. These give the times and locations of courses. Regular U3A bulletins will be mailed during the year. Course lists are issued in mid January and mid June each year.
