Features
* This trunk support is designed to provide the user with improved postural stability and pressure reduction.
* The small triangular air filled cells (smart cells) have a low friction level when in contact with each other and are therefore able to adapt and conform to the user's body shape.
* The butterfly support consists of three separate compartments. Users requirements can be accommodated by the addition or removal of smart cells. Minimum and maximum numbers of smart cells apply.
* The butterfly can be attached at different heights to suit the user and can also be reversed to increase lateral support. Two butterfly supports can be combined to increase surface contact and lateral stability.

Cover
The support comes with two covers. An inner synthetic waterproof cover and a removable outer fabric cover which is breathable, disperses moisture and stretches in two directions. Both covers can be cleaned.

Adjustment
The support can be attached to most wheelchairs by attaching the two adjustable straps around the back of the wheelchair.

Cleaning Requirements
The inner cover can be wiped over with a standard detergent. The outer cover can be machine washed at 60 degrees Celsius.

Wheelchair Positioning
The Vicair Academy Butterfly offers the possibility to create an active, relaxed and stable body position on a basic wheelchair.

Active Position
Supports the pelvis and lower spinal column: In this position a backward rotation of the pelvis is avoided; an active seating position is thus more easily achieved and maintained.

Relaxed Position
Supports the lower part of the rib cage: The Butterfly can also be used in reverse (cradling the lower rib cage). This improves lateral support and encourages a relaxed seating position.

Stable Position
Supports the pelvis, the lower spinal column and the rib cage: Combine two Butterfly's, one low and one high. This creates an individually shaped back support, providing comfortable body contact all the way from the pelvis to halfway up the thoracic spinal column. An improved surface contact and lateral stability is often desired for clients with a pronounced kyphotically distorted spine.

Considerations

Because of their potential to exacerbate deformity, postural support products need regular monitoring to ensure that their positioning and use remains appropriate to the users needs and body shape.
