Short Description
This range of bedsticks is made of white powder coated steel and is available in models for single and double beds. The models consist of single or double uprights or a closed handle. These are joined to a curved base that fits under the mattress. The closed handle model can be rotated to offer alternative grip positions.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR USE
. The shaped bend in the base of the double bedstick needs to be facing toward the foot of the bed. This makes the bedstick more stable as the bottom and torso of the user will be lying over this section The majority of the occupants body weight will be holding it in place.
. Careful consideration needs to be taken when choosing a bed rail or bed stick. They may increase the risk of injury to the occupant in several ways. Entrapment of limbs or body parts may occur within the rails, or between the rails or stick and the bed. This may happen to those having a seizure, or rolling over in bed, or if unstable while transferring out of bed. Injury may also occur by an occupant falling onto a bed stick.

Factors To Consider
In certain circumstances there is an element of risk involved in the use of a bed pole or bed rail. All users require an initial risk assessment. A risk assessment should be undertaken in each circumstance of use. The Bed Pole or Bed rail should not be used in circumstances where there is a gap between the vertical components and the mattress. Users most at risk would include: those with physical limitations, cognitive impairment or a combination of both, or where the intended user's faculties are comprised by medication. Users should have the risk assessed prior to the prescription of a bed rail or bed pole.
Regular monitoring is recommended particularly where the condition is changing.
