* Press the lock button at the top of the handle to allow the handles to open
* Place the rim of the can up under the cutting wheel, so that the can opener is perpendicular to the can
* Lock the can into position by bringing the two handles together. This activates the lock button and allows the cutting wheel to pierce the top of the can
* Hold the handles with one hand while pumping the ratchet lever handle back and forth through a 45 degree angle using the other hand to cut the lid
* Press the lock button at the top of the handle to release the can and open the handles
