JAWS for Windows - Screen Reading Software

JAWS is a screen reading software package designed for people with a vision impairment who use Windows based PC systems. The built-in software speech synthesizer and the computer's sound card allows information from the computer to be read aloud. Comes with a range of features. Available in two versions. * Enhanced support for most popularly used applications (in jobs and schools) including Microsoft Office
* JAWS is also compatible with MSN Messenger, Corel Word Perfect, Adobe Acrobat Reader
* Supports Internet Explorer, Firefox and incorporates special features such as links lists, frames lists, forms mode, reading HTML tables and graphic labels etc
* Includes a range of scripting language for further customisation with non-standard Windows applications and proprietary software
* Tools for easier customisation without the need to write scripts such as Place Markers, Prompt Create and frames manager
* Fully compatible with MAGic screen magnification software
* Output to most popular Braille displays in the computer or Grade 2 Braille
* Comes with Human sounding SAP15 voices, including one Australian male and female.

Training
Basic JAWS training is included. This is five hours of audio instruction to help users understand how to navigate the Windows environment with JAWS
DAISY formatted basic training in text and audio

Interface
Screen reading functions is able to be directly controlled by user via arrow keys, modifier keys and standard keyboard commands.

Some assistive technology needs to meet Australian or other standards. Standards may relate to materials, manufacturing and installation. TGA
Many of the items on the Assistive Technology Australia website are categorised as a Medical Device. Medical devices that are approved for use in Australia have been entered into a national database called the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), which is maintained by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
