* Both side panels can be opened by hinged single or dual bi-fold panels for carer access
* Opening panels have an external door locking safety system
* Panels 800mm high
* Two external wooden lock-in bars (one on each side) prevent active users from forcing the bi-fold panels apart. The lock-in bars are held in place by a metal pin at either end and by two metal hooks that attach to the top of the bi-fold panel

* The power is supplied to the hand piece through a 12 volt transformer
Safety Features
* Lock out facility for bed functions
* Separate lock out facility for tilt function
* Lock out facilities located on control box under the bed
* External door locking safety system has two stages. Stage one is a single finger lock located on the bottom panel rail at the head and foot ends of the bed, this locks each bi-fold panel in place. The second stage has two finger locks, one located on the central upright of the panel and the other on the top rung of the panel, that must be activated at the same time. This locking mechanism holds the two side panels together and provides more stability to the panels, when locked, when an active or restless user is in the bed
Motors
* Are located under the bed
Brakes
* Lever pedal type on all four castors
Factors To Consider
* Rails with or without perspex glazing allow for eye contact between occupant and carer
* The perspex panels allow for uninterrupted vision between user and carer
* Lowered height may allow user to be independent in transfers while higher height allows care giving without back strain
Caution
* Bed rails are used to try and protect the bed occupant from injury. They may increase the risk of injury to the occupant in several ways. Entrapment of limbs or body parts may occur within the rails, or between the rails and the bed. This may occur to those having a seizure, or rolling over in bed, or if unstable while transferring out of bed
* Bed rails can cause some occupants to become anxious while in bed. They may try to climb over the rails, particularly if the occupant has a condition such as dementia
