Frame
The wheelchair has a folding lightweight aluminium frame with a double cross brace.
Upholstery
The seat and backrest are made of Synthetic nylon upholstery with padded mesh inserts. The fabric has a permanently bonded antimicrobial barrier which protects it from odour, staining and deterioration related to bacteria and mould.
Seat
It comes with a slung style seat with contoured padded mesh insert. The Karma 'S' contoured seat, reduces the risk of the user slipping down in the chair.
Backrest
It comes with a slung style backrest with contoured padded mesh insert. There is the option of a solid padded insert or solid backrest cushion. The backrest folds in half for transport.
Armrests
The wheelchair comes standard with desk length, fixed armrests with contoured closed cell foam padding. Clothing guards attach by hook and loop and have an internal pocket for storage of small items.
Legrest
The legrest hangers are fixed.
Footplates
The foot plates are height adjustable with use of an Allen key. They lift up out of the way during transfers and are made of heavy duty plastic.
Wheels
The wheels are solid puncture proof tyres on spoked wheels.
Castors
Solid rubber castors with plastic mag wheels come standard.
Colours
The frame is silver and upholstery is black with silver inserts.
Brakes
The brakes are attendant operated scissor style brakes located under the push handles. The brakes can be locked on using a ratchet mechanism, squeeze until a click is heard. Release by squeezing the small lever at the front of the brake lever.
Factors To Consider
Wheelchair Restraints
When transporting a person in a wheelchair in a car or van, both the occupant and the wheelchair require an RTA approved restraint system. The wheelchair and the occupant need to be separately secured to the vehicle itself.
RTA approval is not required for a postural support, such as a harness, that supports the user in the wheelchair but is not part of the vehicle restraint system.
