Short Description
Telecross is a free telephone checking service. Every morning between 8:00 am and 9:00 am, a Telecross volunteer phones the person living alone to ensure their well being. If the call is unanswered twice, the volunteer refers it onto an authorized person who visits the home.

Operation
1. Referral from friend, family, community service, health worker, etc.
2. Medical referral obtained from own doctor.
3. Co-ordinator of service visits recipient to explain service.
4. Volunteer phones recipient regularly each morning (8:00 am - 9:00 am).
If call unanswered, volunteer waits 10 mins. And tries again. If no
reply, Red Cross is advised. After a further check is made an
authorised person calls at the home and makes any arrangements necessary to provide professional help.
The Red Cross will contact the applicant's doctor to obtain a medical
certificate
