More Details
Materials
* The cushion is a contoured 100mm (4") thick seat support consisting of dual air cells containing multiple densities of foam
* Firmer foam is located around the edges of the cushion and between the legs, providing stability and correct thigh and pelvis positioning
* Soft foam is located under the buttocks and medium foam is used for the thigh trough, pelvic hammocking and pre-ischial ridge
Cover
* The incontinence cover is machine washable
* It is made of two way stretch fabric with reticulated foam sewn to the inside to aid in breathability
* The underside of the cover is slip resistant
* A mesh cover is also available
Adjustment
* Front and rear chambers allow independent adjustment of the pelvis and thigh supports while the user is seated
* The dual chamber arrangement allows the cushion to be adjusted so as to prevent the ischial tuberosities from sliding forward, reducing the opportunity for sacral sitting
Adjusting the Two-way Valves
* Unweight the cushion and open the valves, which will enable the cushion to self inflate
* Close the valves and sit on the inflated cushion
* Then open the right valve to release air from the pelvic (rear) chamber and let the air flow out until you are sitting on approximately 13mm (1/2") of air support, then close the valve. This creates a wedge effect that shifts weight to the thighs
* If required, release air from the thigh (front) chamber by opening the left valve until the desired position is achieved. Close the valve
* The cushion then remains in the contoured position
* Cushion can be re-inflated by opening the valves again once the weight has been taken off it.
Wave Positioning Supports
* Additional pelvic positioning can be achieved by using the Varilite Wave positioning bases in combination with the Meridian
* Three Wave bases are available:
Contoured Positioning Wedge (CPW)
* Provides lateral thigh support to control thigh abduction
* Provides medial thigh support to control thigh adduction
Lateral Positioning Base (LPB)
* Provides posterior pelvic support to reduce pressure on the ischial tuberosities.
Provides lateral pelvic support to maintain pelvis in centre of seat
* Provides lateral thigh support to control thigh abduction
* Provides solid base of support for postural stability
Contoured Positioning Base (CPB)
* Provides posterior pelvic support to reduce pressure on the ischial tuberosities
* Provides lateral pelvic support to maintain pelvis in centre of seat
* Provides lateral thigh support to control thigh abduction
* Provides medial support to control thigh adduction
* Provides solid base of support for postural stability
Application
The supplier states that the cushion is appropriate for a user at high risk of developing pressure areas.

Factors To Consider
There are many things to consider when selecting pressure care products including nutrition, skin moisture, level of mobility, age, shear, friction, location of pressure ulcer (if present) and hygiene. Any comments regarding level of pressure care is a suggestion made by suppliers as a guide to assist with selection, and this may differ from brand to brand. When selecting pressure care products it is strongly advised that a comprehensive assessment is undertaken by a health professional to encourage correct product selection and monitoring of product effectiveness.
All cushions must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg. correct choice and depth of foam, correct inflation level), a different product may need to be considered.
It is also important to ensure that the item is not accidentally placed upside down or back to front.
