Ability Options Employment is a free service that assists people with disability to gain work and supports them and their employer during their first six months of employment.
They can help the job seeker develop their skills and establish their goals and will connect them with the right job
Eligibility
Ability Options Employment assists people with medical conditions, disabilities or employment barriers such as:
* Learning disabilities
* ADHD
* Hearing impairment
* Vision impairment
* Anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions
* Intellectual disabilities
* Acquired brain injuries
* Limb deficiencies
* Arthritis
* Asthma and other respiratory conditions
* Epilepsy
Qualifications
The job seeker needs to
* Have a disability, injury or health condition
* Have a proof of identity
* Be interested in looking for employment
* No referral is required
Ability Options has connections with employers of all sizes and in all industries. They can
* Assist the job seeker to plan and achieve their career goals
* Help them build a professional resume
* Prepare the job seeker for interviews
* Help with job applications
* Organise apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience opportunities
* Arrange services from allied health professionals
* Arrange any modifications to the workplace
* Offer flexible and ongoing support when the person is in a job
* Organise free counselling services
* Work with the job seeker in their language and provide a free interpreter service
Ability Options supports culturally diverse communities. They have multi-lingual staff and offer a free interpreter service to provide advice and support in a language that's best for the job seeker. They can also help the job seeker understand their rights and responsibilities and will educate their employer about any cultural or religious requirements in the workplace.
Their indigenous specific employment services mentor and support people from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds to gain work in way that's appropriate to their culture. They work with Aboriginal elders and specifically trained staff to work within indigenous communities.
