The Arthritis Foundation of NSW produces several A4 size fact sheets on conditions associated with arthritis in its various forms. Fact sheets are also available on their web site.
This standard contains specific requirements for the safe design and construction of mechanical devices for patient lifting and moving. It has been developed to supplement the published standards for lifting and moving of patients, aimed at reducing the risks of disabilities and costs in human and economic terms.
AS ISO 10535-2002 / Hoists For The Transfer Of Disabled Persons - Requirements and test methods. This European standard specifies requirements and test methods only for hoists and body support units intended for the transfer of disabled persons as classified in EN ISO 9999:1998. It supercedes AS 2569.2-1987 Guide to Lifting and Moving of Patients.
A book written for carers to help prevent a back injury. It includes hints and pictures to demonstrate methods for assisting with transfers, wheelchair use and daily tasks. It is also available in PDF format (see DVA website).
British Standard BS 5827 - 1979 has been based on performance requirements for mobile manually operated patient lifting devices. NB. THIS STANDARD WAS RECONFIRMED IN 1991.
A series of videos for training in manual handling. Topics cover the manual handling of people, healthcare, back care, client assessment, transfers and toileting, falls and equipment.
A range of posters for educational use in the workplace or home. They demonstrate safe manual handling, correct ergonomic methods of lifting and office safety.
A 7 video training package which highlights unsafe work practices and demonstrates a revised approach and application of manual handling techniques for use with clients. Supplied with a workbook.
