The 9th Asian Pacific Parkinson Association Meeting

June 21, 2013



The 9th Asian Pacific Parkinson Association Meeting was held on 15-16 June at the Sydney Convention Centre. The Meeting was sponsored by the Movement Disorder Society, and is specially designed for People Living With Parkinson's and their partners, families and carers.
There were a long list of very interesting speakers covering topics like Stem Cell Therapy, Neuroplasticity, Sleep Disturbance in Parkinson's disease, plus much more.
ILC NSW was exhibiting on both days with over 100 people visited our stand.

 

Agosci 2013 - Connect2Communicate

From 1-4 May AGOSCI held it’s 11th Biennial AGOSCI Conference at the Sydney Hilton. Over 300 delegates attended the 3-day conference and the Preconference Workshops.
When we Connect2Communicate we Connect2Life!
Inspirational keynote speakers were Dr Sarah Blackstone, Dr Susan Balandin and Mel Smith. A highlight of the conference was the Connect2Communicate Community Forum, sponsored by the City of Sydney. Attendees had opportunities in sharing and learning information about communication, plus the need for Communication Access for All.

It's the first time that the Independent Living Centre NSW exhibited at an Agosci Conference.

Welcome to our Livable Design Display

January 23, 2013

On 12 December 2012, ILCNSW's new display at Blacktown was officially opened. Our invited guests shared our 2012 achievements of building a new display, where we are able to showcase Assistive Technologies and Home Modifications in context, within an apartment built to the Livable Housing Design Guidelines.

After the official opening, our guests inspected the display apartment with the assistance of staff and enjoyed a networking lunch with associates and suppliers.
Come and visit our Livable Design Display, full of items promoting 'possibilities'.

The Independent Living Centre NSW is pleased to announce that @ magic, our Assistive Technology Database on the website, has it's supplier base extended gradually. It now contains supplier information from all around Australia as well as from New Zealand.

This two day course covers clinical aspects of manual wheelchair prescription, and provides hands-on investigation of manual wheelchair features.

- Product knowledge and manual wheelchair feature update
- Transportation and handling of manual wheelchairs
- Environmental considerations and constraints

This course has been developed in collaboration with the Master Builders Association of NSW and the Building Designers Association of NSW. This training program will provide you with the skills and knowledge to confidently design and build for the older generation and people with a disability.

The course is designed as an introduction for therapists, aged care workers and others involved in the care of a person diagnosed with dementia. The workshop explores assistive technology and strategies to promote independence and to enable people to remain safe in their environment.

ILC Everyone Connects: Consumer Mini-Expo

The Independent Living Centre NSW, in collaboration with the Telstra Foundation, is presenting a Mini-expo for people with complex communication needs (CCN).
The cost is FREE for people with CCN and one family member/ unpaid carer. Others (e.g. therapists, teachers, paid carers) are welcome to attend at a cost of $25pp.
