OPTIONS
PORTABLE / PERSONAL ALARMS
These are designed to ward off intruders or raise help from someone nearby.
Examples include:
. battery operated alarms which emit a high pitched shriek when activated
. umpire's whistle
. bells
INTERCOM SYSTEMS
Examples include:
. noise-activated monitoring intercoms such as baby monitors
. two-way intercoms, usually with-in house or on the same electrical phase between house and shed or flat
PORTABLE PERSON TO PERSON ALARMS
One person carries the transmitter which comes in a variety of styles, while the other carries the receiver. These will operate over a limited distance.
NEIGHBOUR TO NEIGHBOUR ALARMS
Sirens and flashing lights may be mounted outside the house or in a
neighbour's home. They may be operated by a transmitter worn as a pendant, on a wristband or as a belt or pocket clip.
CUSTOMISED SYSTEMS
These may incorporate a number of features designed to suit individual needs.
TELSTRA DELAYED HOTLINE
An emergency dialling facility which can be incorporated into the household telephone. When receiver is removed it connects to the programmed number which would need to always be attended to be effective.
"TELECROSS"
A daily telephone call from a Red Cross volunteer checks on the
well being of people living alone and who are at risk. If the call
is not answered, an officer from the welfare service will investigate.
CORDLESS OR MOBILE TELEPHONES
These may be carried in a pocket or belt clip and used to call for help in an emergency. Memory facility will store appropriate numbers.
