PFD is a charitable non profit organisation of volunteers who are involved in the training and placement of diabetic alert dogs. These dogs give their owners warning well in advance of an impending hypoglycaemic episode, allowing for prompt treatment to avert the episode from happening.

. Paws for Diabetics Inc is a member of Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and as such, abide by their internationally accepted code of ethics. They also follow the ADI guidelines in all aspects of training and accreditation of dogs and recipients.
. Dogs are placed with those who meet the criteria and recipients are given extensive training on handling and caring for an assistance dog.
. The organisation relies on donations to fund the dog training.
An application kit can be downloaded from the Paws for Diabetics Inc. website or requested via telephone from the secretary. Return the completed application and medical history forms with a non refundable application fee (to be advised) to Paws for Diabetics Inc. Once the application is received, a selection committee will review the information provided and notify the applicant of the results. This usually occurs within 28 days of receiving a completed application kit.
