Short Description
An air filled, non electric mattress replacement system designed for pressure distribution. The mattress utilises atmospheric pressure and gravity to continuously adjust to the user's weight and movement via nine dynamic air cylinders and preset valves. Available in two sizes. Suitable for persons at low to medium risk of developing pressure ulcers.
Models
Only one model is available in two sizes.
More Details
The mattress is designed to self adjust to displace body weight and reduce pressure. When body weight is placed on the mattress, a preset one-way output valve opens and allows air to escape. The valve shuts off when optimum internal pressure is reached. When body weight is shifted off a cylinder, one-way intake valves allow air to re-enter and refill the cylinder, which then returns to its original shape.
Cover
The mattress comes standard with a fluid resistant, multi-stretch cover.
Structure
* The mattress is made up of two layers of high density foam separated by nine air cylinders positioned lengthwise which provide additional support under the torso and legs
* The top layer of foam is convoluted
* The mattress has a sloped heel section and is firm around the edges to facilitate transfers
Factors To Consider
All pressure reduction products must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion or mattress. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg correct inflation levels), a different product may need to be considered.
