* Eyegaze Edge Tablet has software preinstalled for communication using a speech synthesiser

Programming
* Once the Eyegaze Edge program is started, the user calibrates the system by gazing at five to nine coloured dots on the screen
* The main menu is then started, which presents a list of available Eyegaze Edge programs
* The user selects their desired program by looking at the Eyegaze key next to the program choice
Access
* Eyegaze Edge Tablet is a one-eye system, that is it tracks only one of the user's eyes
* In order to operate the Eyegaze Edge Tablet the user requires good control of one eye and head movement will need to be minimal
* Some reading or word recognition skills will be required
Portability
* This communication device is designed to be used whilst mounted to a wheelchair or on desk
* The camera does not operates effectively in sunlight so usage is either restricted or unavailable outside
* A mount plate compatible with the DAESSY and REHAdapt wheelchair attached support system is available for mounting on desks or wheelchairs
Accessories
* Other packages are available for the Eyegaze Edge software including environmental control, EyeMouse and Computer Access

Factors To Consider
Output
* As an AAC system, Eyegaze Edge Tablet requires the attached computer system to be setup for speech generation
Input
* Be aware of lighting conditions that may effect the system, particularly outside or direct sunlight
* Although the system is head movement tolerant excessive head movement will effect or even negate it's use
* Calibration will be required for the user
* The position of the user will also need to be considered for effective use e.g. prone use or seated upright
Access
* Eye gaze tracking method only
* Ensure the input settings best suited are applied so that access to the device is not a barrier
* Write down the settings of the device and keep them in a safe place. They may be needed in the future if they are accidentally changed or the device is reset to factory defaults
Portability
* Consider suitability for people who are independently mobile and the accessories available to assist
* If using mobility aids, consider the wheelchair mounting options at the same time as the eye gaze system and the attached device. Effective access to the communication system is extremely important
Special Features
* This device contains pre-programmed page sets that are designed to be used as a base for users to customise as required. This can reduce the programming time required
* Devices with LCD screens can be harder to see outdoors and be aware of reflected glare
Batteries and Charging
* Eyegaze Edge Tablet requires a mains AC power source (e.g. when being used with a desktop PC and monitor) or power from the attached PC system (e.g. when being used with a tablet or speech generating device)

* Some wheelchair mounting options are available. A proper assessment of the access need should be a part of the entire prescription process
