All wet areas need to be protected by a safety switch, however weatherproof light switches can further reduce the risk of electrocution. Weatherproof light switches are usually designed for outdoors and may consist of a rubber seal either behind the switch button protecting the internal wiring or covering the switch button. Therefore, wet fingers pressing the switch are at less risk. Weatherproof enclosures or covers for switches and general power outlets (GPOs) are also an option. There are Australian Standard safety requirements for the location of GPOs and light switches in wet areas.

The 2025RC is a safety power outlet socket. It offers a simple method of single circuit protection, so that in the event of a fault, only the directly affected outlets are disconnected. This protects appliances against damage and homes against fire resulting from faults of this nature. The 2025RC can also be used to test appliances for faults.
