Short Description
An inflatable cushion with an in built sensor that monitors the correct inflation level of the cushion. Individual air cells adjust to the user's contours when sat on. A visual and auditory alarm is activated when bottoming out occurs. The air pressure can then be adjusted to allow optimal immersion in the cushion. It is suitable for people at very high risk of pressure ulcer development. Available in 4 sizes and one 10cm cell height.
Method Of Use
For optimal inflation:
- Over inflate the cushion slightly.
- Deflate until a light signal comes on
- Reinflate the cushion until the light signal goes out
- Add 10 pumps of air using the inflation pump supplied
- Perform a pendular movement on the cushion
- Readjust if necessary with 5 pumps of air
- The inflation level should now be correct

AIR ALERT CONTROL UNIT
A system of sensors continuously measure the height of the residual air inside the cushion against the bony protuberances around the pelvic area. These sensors are connected to the Air Alert control unit. They warn of any abnormal situation and continuously monitor the quality of the base. As soon as potential bottoming out is detected, one or more of the warning lights will begin to flash. 30 seconds later an audible alarm will beep five times. Both visual and audible alarms will continue every 30 seconds until corrective action is taken.
If the risk of bottoming out is temporary eg because the user shifts position, a visual signal is emitted but no audible alert.
The warning lights indicate whether bottoming out is occurring on the left side, right side or both sides.
BATTERIES
The control unit uses 2 x AAA batteries.
Low battery power = five beeps per minute
Control unit disconnected = five beeps per 10 seconds
COVER
Two way stretch with smooth surface. Air and steam permeable (breathable). The underside has a slip resistant surface. Washable at 40 degrees C
APPLICATION
As well as monitoring bottoming out, the Air Alert can help users get into the practice of repositioning themselves at regular intervals. The cushion can be programmed to emit an audible signal every 30 minutes as a repositioning reminder. At the same time it still monitors for situations that could result in bottoming out.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR USE
The control unit does not detect over inflation of the cushion
If the control unit is faulty, the whole cushion will need to be replaced
