A PACS is a telephone based personal alarm that allows a person to call for assistance when they are unable to access a telephone. It works by pressing a button on a pendant worn around the neck, or on a wristlet, which activates a unit connected to the telephone line. A call is automatically sent to a designated contact, help is then sent to the person in distress. PACS can operate in a variety of settings - private homes, retirement villages and health facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes. Specific information on Personal Alarm Call Systems can be accessed through the Independent Living Centre NSW database www.ilcnsw.asn.au <http://www.ilcnsw.online>
