Ability Links NSW (ALNSW) is a government initiative created to support the ongoing reforms of the disability service system in NSW. The program will ensure that people can find information and be supported to take up opportunities to access their local communities - outside of the traditional disability service system. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has launched in the Hunter region of NSW. Expansion of all NSW will be from July 1, 2014.

Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs) help older people and their carers decide what kind of care will best meet their needs when they are no longer able to manage at home without assistance. ACATs provide information on suitable care options and can help arrange access or referral to appropriate residential or community care. Februay 2016 ACATs have begun using My Aged Care to conduct comprehensive assessments and send electronic referrals to providers for residential care, transition care and home care packages.

People can access FIS by phone, interview or by attending one of the regular FIS seminars on a wide range of financial and investment topics. The service does not give financial advice.

The NSW Department of Community Services (DoCS) is the leading NSW Government agency responsible for community services. They work to promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people and to build stronger families and communities. They operate a 24 hour telephone helpline.

The NSW Department of Ageing, Disability & Home Care (ADHC) is the leading NSW Government agency responsible for older people, people with a disability and their carers. They also provide home care services to help these people to live independently in their own homes. ADHC has regional offices throughout the state.

DisabilityCare Australia is the national disability insurance scheme (NDIS). It provides community linking and individualised support for people with permanent and significant disability, their families and carers. The National Disability Insurance Scheme will roll out across New South Wales between 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2018. People with disability living in the local government areas of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland can already access the NDIS though the Hunter trial. From 1 July 2015, the NDIS has also become available to eligible participants aged between 0-17 in the Nepean and Blue Mountains area.
