PODD Workshops will be of interest to anyone who is supporting communication for people requiring augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). ILCNSW will be running 2 PODD Workshops in April.
Venue: Northcott Building, No 1 Fennell St, Parramatta
1) PODD Introductory Workshop
Date: 7th - 8th April 2014
Time: 8.30am Registration; Workshop 9.00am – 4.30pm
This Two Day Introductory Workshop will focus on understanding and applying use of the direct access PODD communication systems, with an emphasis on creating communication environments at home, in early education and in school settings. Examples will include children with cerebral palsy, autism and developmental disabilities.

2) PODD Alternative Access Workshop
Date: 9 April 2014
Time: 8.30am Registration; Workshop 9.00am – 4.30pm
The Alternative Access Workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about the new resource that will be published soon, providing alternative access resources for implementing PODD communication systems. This will provide participants with practice in using a range of access methods.

Towards Universal Design – The Future Of Access
Venue: Waterview Conference Centre, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush, Sydney
The Conference includes a mix of plenary sessions, presentations, site visits, workshops, a trade exhibition and a conference dinner. The conference has concurrent sessions for attendees to choose their topics of interest.
Key note speaker: Professor Satoshi Kose from Department of Architecture at Shizuoka University, Japan
Prof. Satoshi Kose is a highly acclaimed expert in Universal Design, author of numerous books and published papers, and a member of numerous international Committees including International Standards Organisation.

The course is designed as an introduction for therapists, aged care workers and others involved in the care of a person diagnosed with dementia. The workshop explores assistive technology and strategies to promote independence and to enable people to remain safe in their environment.
