Assistive Technology Workshops

5 December 2012

Ability Technology, in conjunction with Hartley Lifecare, have been conducting a series of assistive technology workshops in Canberra this year.
The final one for 2012, will be held on 5 December, covering two topics: Memory Aids and Tablet Access.

Access All Areas Film Festival 2012

3 - 11 December 2012

The Sapphires and 10 new Australian short films
Access All Areas is an annual film festival featuring increased access for people with a disability. Each year, it showcases new Australian films around International Day for People with a Disability (3-Dec). The 2012 Season will be screening the Australian film The Sapphires, plus ten new family-friendly Australian short films, including award-winners The Maker and The Missing Key. The feature films with closed captions and audio description are screened at Dendy Opera Quays, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Parramatta Riverside Theatres and Campbelltown Arts Centre. Bookings for the festival are NOW OPEN! All tickets are FREE but you must book to reserve your seat or wheelchair space. Booking details are:

International Day of People with Disability

3 December 2012

IDPwD is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being. Celebrated on 3 December each year, the day seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of the integration of people with disability. IDPwD brings the world together to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions and achievements of people with disability. The 2012 UN theme is 'Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all'. Visit IDPwD website for more info.

In NSW, the event is celebrated through the Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign. Up to 100 events are held throughout November and December to celebrate the diversity and ability of people with a disability. For more info, go to www.dontdismyability.com.au
