Short Description
An electrically operated, alternating air mattress overlay designed for the prevention of pressure ulcer development for people at low to medium risk or for those who have already developed a grade 1 or 2 pressure ulcer. It is made from polyurethane with a polyurethane nylon stretch cover. The overlay comes with a portable pump unit. It is suitable for use in both the hospital and domestic environments.
Method Of Use
The system is used on top of an existing mattress.
Once the correct air pressure is reached, the pump only operates intermittently to maintain pressure in the system.
More Details
The system consists of a portable pump unit and a mattress overlay made from plastic (polyurethane) that sits on top of an existing mattress.
Structure
* The Duocare overlay is comprised of 17 individual cells that have a 1 in 2 cell cycle
* The total cycle time is 10 minutes with alternation every four minutes
* The cells are replaceable and fully repairable
* The cells have welded seams to reduce the risk of ingestion of fluids
* The mattress overlay can also be profiled by adjustable straps
Cover
* The cover is separate and is two way stretch, vapour permeable, waterproof and flame retardant
* Both the cell material and the cover are non-allergenic, highly resistant to soaps and detergents, and are fully launderable
* The cover lies over the top of the overlay and attaches to the overlay with press studs.
Talley B.A.S.E. Sequential Cushion
Additional features include the ability to attach a Talley B.A.S.E. Sequential cushion directly into either side of the overlay head end (this allows the occupant to be transferred between the cushion and the overlay without the need to swap hoses) and a CPR facility.
Attachment
This is directly onto the existing mattress via tuck in flaps.
Pump / Controls
* A separate, portable alternating pressure pump features an on / off switch and a manually operated pressure control dial which sets the required level of air pressure according to the user's weight
* It is quiet in operation and features visual and audible operation status and fault indicators
* The pump operates by supplying air on demand only, when the mattress requires it, reducing power consumption and extending service life
* The pump can be hung on the bed by adjustable hanging brackets or stood on the floor.
Safety Features
Include visual and audible operation status, such as a low air pressure warning alrm, and fault indicators on the pump; and a CPR release situated at the side of the overlay for rapid deflation.
Maintenance
Cleaning Requirements
The cover can be machine washed and line dried (in the shade) or tumble dried on cool. The cells can be separated from the base for decontamination.
